The Runway Inspired Challenge

The Runway Inspired Challenge is an online arts and crafts competition that gets you papercrafting using the catwalks as your muse. Founder Jennifer Rzasa tells us more about this fashion-forward linky party.

The worlds of fashion and papercraft have collided this year with the launch of the Runway Inspired Challenge, brainchild of music teacher Jennifer Rzasa (who also somehow finds the time to run her own blog, Our Change of Art). The premise is simple – make a project based on a picture from a fashion show, submit it to the blog and sit back to see if you win a fabulous prize.
Here’s what Jennifer had to say about her super-stylish linky party.

“Projects can be inspired by the colour, theme or texture of the chosen picture. When the challenge closes, my Design Team and I review the entries and we each vote on our top five favourites.  We take into consideration their interpretation of the inspiration photo and the overall look of the entry – we love clean, well-executed projects!
“Our challenges focus on papercrafts or projects that use papercrafting supplies. Cards, scrapbook layouts, party favours, invitations, home decor projects or even gift wrap would all be welcome.”

“I started the challenge because I had never seen anything like it before. I’m always inspired by the beautiful, interesting and sometimes crazy things that fashion designers come up with and figured that others might be too. They’re the ones that decide what the newest trends will be and there’s no reason why crafters can’t follow along.
“I use the latest runway shows to keep as current with the trends as possible. Fashion is always ahead of the season, so right now we’re focusing on spring 2013 looks. I like to choose a variety of styles and not just select what I like – I want to appeal to all our participants. I also use a new designer each time. Sometimes you might look at one of the inspiration photos and think, ‘I would NEVER wear that. But it does have some interesting design details, I love that pattern and those colours’. It can get you out of your comfort zone. A push in a new creative direction is always good!”

The judges are women I am personally inspired by. Last year when I came up with the idea for the challenge I thought of who I would want on my dream team and started writing emails. I was blown away when everyone said they would join me on this adventure! We really support one another.
“Every challenge is sponsored by a company that sells papercrafting products and supplies. Sometimes I contact them and other times they find our challenge and email me regarding sponsorship. We’re always on the lookout for new sponsors and our participants love the extra incentive of a great prize!
“My favourite thing is checking out the entries, then leaving comments for each participant. There is so much talent out there and I love when people choose to share it through the Runway Inspired Challenge. I hope that as more people discover our challenge, we can continue to inspire each other!”
